Mentoring for Effective ELP Implementation

Course Overview

This training programme aims to provide course participants, who are appointed as a Mentor within a company participating in the "SkillsFuture Earn & Learn Programme" (ELP), with:

  • An understanding of mentoring and the roles of a mentor in ELP 
  • The required underpinning knowledge and understanding of the best practices relating to a mentoring programme and the competencies to apply these knowledge and practices for an effective implementation of ELP, beneficial to both the trainees and the participating company
Target Audience

This Training Programme / Course is targeted for personnel with the following Job Roles and Experiences: 

  • Appointed as a Mentor(s) from a company participating in the ELP under the SkillsFuture initiative 
  • Likely to be appointed as a Mentor in the near future for the ELP initiative 
  • Holding supervisory or managerial positions and performing mentoring roles
  • Human Resource Development or Training & Development functions

Entry Requirements

Preferably at least 2 years’ experience in the Training Department.

Expected Learning Outcomes
  • At the end of the training programme, participants should be able to:
  • Define and articulate the concept of mentoring 
  • Describe and differentiate between mentoring and coaching, and the situation to use either of them.   
  • Cite the reasons why a mentoring program is important to a participating organization in ELP, and to a mentee.  
  • Demonstrate competencies in the use of mentoring techniques and be an effective mentor, and
  • Implement an effective mentoring program for a successful ELP within the organization, including:
    • the preparation of a mentoring and structured OJT plan together with the line manager/trainer for the trainee(s) and 
    • a mentor’s report on the progress of the Trainee(s) on an agreed interval or reporting period.
